I am Damira. I am so thankful and blessed with this business, it's a lot of hard work but very rewarding. Our journey has been a lot of fun.
How we got started?
My husband and I both enjoy relaxing with scented candles. We became curious as to why our candle jars turned black and why the wicks were throwing black soot. Then we began to notice a thin layer of black dust on all surfaces and walls inside our home. At that point we realized, not only was this black film on our candle jars but it also must be in the air we are breathing. We wondered if it was harmful.
Our curiosity motivated us to do some research of the health aspects of candles. What we found out was really shocking!
We learned that most very expensive and famous candles are made from paraffin wax, which is a refined gasoline, and a petroleum by-product. Some of this included, Yankee Candle(tm), Pier 1(tm), Bath and Body Works(tm), Victoria's Secret(tm), and many others found at retail stores.
In Fact, it is very probable that all candles in your house right now are paraffin based candles!
To learn more about paraffin wax, we received a report form the Environmental Protection Agency(EPA). The report stated the following., "paraffin wax is harmful when burned, as bad as second-hand smoke, and contains 11 toxins, two that are considered above the excess cancer risk with multiple exposures".We were astonished. In addition we learned that most commercially made fragrances were almost as harmful as the paraffin wax.
We were very frustrated with the candles that were currently on the market. Besides being unhealthy and very expensive, they often had little or no aroma. The candle wax burned very uneven leaving a big hole down the center. Most often big chunks of wax were left on the side of the jar and the wicks often got buried in the wax waisting a lot of paid wax unburned.
We enjoy burning candles and were not ready to give up that pleasure, but we were also not going to put our health in jeopardy. We were convinced that there had to be a way to make a healthier, better, and less expensive candles.
We learned that in 1998, students at Purdue University invented Soy Wax. Soy wax has no harmful carcinogens, burns clean and lasts way longer than paraffin wax.
We then proceeded to learn, and experiment to better understand about candle making with soy wax. Trying different formulations of soy wax, we ended up developing our own soy formulation for our extraordinary scented soy candles.
So, out of this desire, working hard for about 1 year, We are proud to produce candles that are not only healthy, but are scented above and beyond the best of scented candles!
These candles burned clean and evenly, they are healthy and the scent is amazing, lasting from the very top to the very bottom.
Most candles are produced using automated machinery requiring the temperature of the wax to be much hotter, specially paraffin. Unfortunately, a great deal of fragrance evaporates into the air and a large percentage rises to the top, leaving the bottom of the candle with little scent.
